DisplayMapper announces world’s first projection-mapped display unit
MirrorBox achieves daylight-visible projection mapping onto physical products in a real-life retail environment
DisplayMapper, a division of Projection Artworks, the UK’s leading projection specialist, has announced its first fully daylight-visible retail solution, the free-standing MirrorBox.
A new type of POS display unit, MirrorBox allows super-bright, 3D projection mapping to be beamed onto physical products in a daylight-visible retail environment – a world-first.
The DisplayMapper team has harnessed new high-brightness projection technology and combined it with its own expertise in innovative design, mirrors, and specialist lenses to offer jaw-dropping solutions for in-store displays. MirrorBox’s clever use of mirrors means that a complete projection can be mapped onto products with just one projector, whilst a HD display situated behind the product creates mesmerising patterns when combined with the mirrored effect within the box.

MirrorBox utilises DisplayMapper’s bespoke cloud-based software, controlled and updated from a central network, allowing clients to develop and automatically deliver their own content to hundreds of MirrorBoxes, all controlled centrally. In-store equipment is low cost, industry standard and easy to use and maintain. A small form factor PC runs a pixel perfect, fully capable 3d mapping system – commonly associated with D3 (data driven documents) and high-end media servers costing up to 50 times more – and the system is completely self-contained.
“Thanks to the DisplayMapper system, MirrorBox enables clients to utilise their existing content in daylight-visible retail displays,” explains Tom Burch, managing director of DisplayMapper and Projection Artworks. “Mirror Box is the first of a whole new generation of POS displays, driven by a relatively low-cost 3D projection system that can centrally control and distribute valuable content to hundreds of MirrorBox displays situated across the globe. There’s nothing you would normally associate with a projector install – no keyboard, no monitors, no cable runs. It’s all self-contained, controlled by an app and very easy to use.”
MirrorBox can be hired for 1-3 month campaigns or purchased. Custom MirrorBox units can be created by third parties and fitted with DisplayMapper’s technology and content distribution system. With 10 years’ experience at the forefront of digital display, the DisplayMapper team offers a complete service, including design, technology consultancy and integration into third-party manufacturers. The company helps its clients maximise the potential of this new technology by partnering with suppliers with global capabilities.
MirrorBox and CloudMapper are officially launching at ProjectionArtwork’s offices between 16th and 22nd July.
