Prism proves that going analog protects your privacy
CashGuard CTO Björn Eriksson is at the forefront of the cash trends. He shares his expert commentary on news, trends and developments in all things related to cash
As the former NSA employee Edward Snowden recently revealed, the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) tracks your life without being invited or telling you. And there are many other organisations doing the same.
The recently exposed PRISM program is (now officially) targeting non-US citizens living outside the US. That’s most of you, the readers of this blog. PRISM extracts the details of people's online activities. The authorities justify the invasion of privacy by saying its necessary for hunting terrorists. What may pass as balance for policy makers in the intelligence community may mean a gross imbalance for us non-terrorists.
PRISM proves that getting digital data for millions and millions of private individuals is possible. Digital data, aaah – works great for tracking and analysis of your digital life.
Analog tracking is like gold digging
The analog life is more difficult to track. It’s IRL, In Real Life. Collecting data in the analog world is human or electronic. The human kind can be sending an investigator or spy. Electronic data collection is like getting pictures or video recordings from surveillance cameras in the street, in the store, in transportation and from satellites. Collection and processing these recordings is time-consuming. The data volume is massive. It’s like gold digging; trying to find something of value among tons of uninteresting things.
Cash shuts out government spying
The digital portion of your life is much easier to track. Remember that all your digital activities are accessible for others whether they are invited or not. The nice thing about the analog world is that everything is unique. Things may be similar, but not identical when you look closely. The analog world is so rich in detail, that the NSA has problems of keeping track.
Cash is wonderfully analog. Every coin and bank note is unique, just like you.
