Banco do Brasil Launches a New Card
Dedicated to the recovery of the Atlantic Forest and personalized with photos by Sebastião Salgado
When applying for a new payment card, clients of the Banco do Brasil can choose from ten exclusive images of Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado and contribute to the planting of native trees and the recovery of water springs in Brazil. The first Banco do Brasil card made from recycled plastic will be launched today at Cartes & Identification tradeshow – the biggest card event in the world, which began yesterday in Paris (France).
Ourocard “Origins” is a theme card, the mirror* of the clients current Ourocard. It maintains the same functionalities, benefits and attributes of the card the client already has. The new card features a new picture by Brazilian photographer Sebastião Salgado, to be chosen from a gallery of ten images available. The material used to produce these cards consists of 75 percent of recycled material. The product is manufactured by Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), helps to protect the environment be reutilizing PVC obtained from preconsumer waste.
Clients who apply for the card will be contributing to the actions of Instituto Terra (Earth Institute), which promotes the recovery and sustainable management of the Atlantic Forest in Brazil, through the planting of native trees in the riverside regions. For each card requested, the client will be donating R$ 5.00 to Instituto Terra, with automatic accession to the Statement Rounding service**, and contributing to the planting of 1 of the 400 trees needed to promote the recovery of 1 (one) water spring.
*Technology that permits the issue of a multifunctional card that retains the same benefits, services, characteristics and limits of the customer’s existing main card. Purchases made with this new card will appear in the bill for the main card.
**The Statement Rounding Off service is a technology by Banco do Brazil that allows rounding the full amount of the client's invoice to the next integer value and the cents corresponding to this difference are donated to a charity/nonprofit institution partner of Banco do Brasil. The client can chose to cancel this service at any time via the Internet or at any Banco do Brasil ATM.
