How do ordered products get from the shopping cart to the doorstep? This question was answered impressively at the e-Commerce Day 2025 by Kaufland. Visitors were able to go through the entire fulfillment process live - from ordering in the demo store to picking, packing and shipping. I went on this journey and documented it step by step.
The start - overview of the demo experience
Scan QR code, select products, complete order - the instructions for the Fulfillment Experience explain the individual steps.

Order and checkout
- 1. Choose your favorite products: You can have three giveaways.
- 2. Specify shipping details and finalize order.
- 3. Order successful: the order number is the key to the rest of the process.
Registration at the stand and start of picking
Here we go: The order code is used to start the picking process. The scanner is then used to navigate through the warehouse to the correct shelf. Finally, pick-by-light makes it easier to find the products.
Collect and scan items
The process is quick and easy: remove the product and scan it. Once everything is collected, the shopping cart is ready for the packing station.
Checking and packaging preparation
The basket is scanned at the packing station. The appropriate carton must then be selected. Next comes the item check: What has been picked? Is everything complete? Everything is scanned again for a 100% check. Then you can start filling the parcel.
Inserts and shipping preparation
Information material and goodies complete the package. The inserts must therefore be selected next. Here too, pick-by-light lights show which inserts should be added to the parcel. Once this has been done, the shipping label is created and printed directly on site. The parcel is now ready to be packed: The empty space in the parcel is filled with packing paper, then it's time to close and seal it. Finally, the shipping label is affixed - done! The parcel can now be sent.
From the stand to the front door: the fulfillment experience is complete
Mission accomplished - a few days later, the package arrives at the iXtenso office.

Conclusion: Logistics made understandable and tangible
The Fulfillment 360° LIVE Experience at the e-Commerce Day 2025 offered a practical and interactive opportunity to go through the individual stages of an online order. From virtual shopping to the actual parcel in the office, the process was not only visible, but tangible. A lasting experience!
