New release of NCR SelfServ™ Checkout software provides more control, greater flexibility for retailers
Software enhancements help retailers implement self-checkout faster and lower management costs
NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) today announced the latest release of its NCR SelfServ™ Checkout software, which delivers several new enhancements that will help retailers implement self-checkout lanes faster and lower the cost of managing self-checkout terminals.
The core of the new release is an improved integration framework that uses Extensible Markup Language (XML) technology to facilitate the connection between the self-checkout solution and the retailer’s existing point-of-sale (POS) system. This new framework provides significant time and cost savings for retailers as most changes made to their existing POS systems, such as the addition of new payment types including gift cards, will now automatically be reflected within the self-checkout system.
Another new feature, the NCR YourPOS™ Assist Mode, allows attendants to complete complex transactions on the self-checkouts, such as tax-exempt sales, which were previously only available on the retailer’s traditional POS software. In addition to enhancing customer service, this capability makes it easier for retailers to cross-train operators for self-checkout attendant and traditional cashier positions.
“As the market share leader in self-service checkout, NCR continuously works to incorporate innovative new functionality into our solutions that allow retailers to offer more choices and greater convenience to shoppers while preserving their existing technology infrastructure investments,” said Mark Wallace, solution management director, NCR Corporation.
As the NCR SelfServ Checkout Software now supports more than 40 different POS software environments from NCR and other vendors, retailers can integrate their self-checkouts with their existing POS system faster and more economically without the need to develop customized middleware.
The software release is available to new or existing NCR SelfServ Checkout customers. Additional information on the enhancements to the NCR SelfServ Checkout software can be found online at http://bit.ly/dbjyF8.
