Kaba pExtra achieves new SS312 “Diamond Standard” accreditation
Kaba Ltd are pleased to announce that its pExtra LAM SBS mechanical locking cylinder has met all requirements set out by the Sold Secure SS312 Diamond Standard, in association with the Master Locksmiths Association and Secured by
Design.
Based on EN 1303:2005 and the General Vulnerability Assessment from BS 3621 this standard incorporates additional requirements to address critical issues relating to the security provided by cylinders and associated keys.
Sold Secure is dedicated to reducing the risk of crime by the assessment of security products. Established in 1992 by Northumbria and Essex Police with the help and backing of the Home Office, Sold Secure is now owned and
administered by the Master Locksmiths Association and has recently amended the SS312 standard level to incorporate a much longer attack time requirement.
The new Kaba pExtra LAM SBS (Diamond) cylinder includes a collar fixed to the housing and incorporates an additional level of protection for the lockcase. Whilst the current attack criteria does not cover lockcase attacks, Kaba see it as
an important element of door security. Secured by Design state that the principles behind its recommended standards
have been proven to achieve a reduction of crime risk by up to 75%, by combining minimum standards of physical security and well-tested principles of natural surveillance and defensible space.
The Sold Secure scheme has close ties with a number of constabularies and insurers who provide regular information regarding the methods of theft and the tools utilised by criminals in their areas. This helps to maintain up to date
specifications and means security products can be assessed in the light of the risk they are likely to encounter when in use.
