Future scenarios for visual communication:

Top speakers giving an introduction to new media technologies

Düsseldorf. How real is our reality? Will computer generated images, animations or films merge with real environments to form a surrogate of reality and surreal reality? What may sound futuristic at first, has had a name for a long time already: experts like Jan Schlink speak of "augmented reality", where animations merge with the real environment. And this technology has been existing for quite some time, as the interactive DIGITAL BOX developed by the Munich company metaio GmbH for LEGO shows: using its camera and interactive kiosk, LEGO toys can be shown in virtual 3D animation as an integral part of the real user environment. This enables customers to hold the package and the finished product in their hands at the same time.

Jan Schlink is one of the speakers who will be concerned with future scenarios in visual communication during the viscom tec.09 conference. New technologies, examples of application and visions on the visual communication of the future are the focus of the first of altogether four panels and will be presented and discussed in an open dialogue on 30 September at the viscom tec.09 conference. The other well-known speakers on the first panel are:

Visual communication goes mobile

Scott Seaborn is Head of Mobile Technologies with the Ogilvy Group UK & Co-Chairman of the UK Mobile Marketing Association and has been working on the use of mobile communication devices such as mobile phones and, most recently, netbooks as marketing channels for more than ten years. For almost the same period, mobile marketing has been hailed as the next technology to change the world of advertising and communication. With the huge success of smartphones such as iPhone and Blackberry the necessary devices are available now to make these prophesies come true. It will be exciting to hear how mobile phones are already used as interactive display media and devices to control interaction with posters, online offers or digital signage display screens. Scott is convinced that the marketing communication of the future will be mobile. In his presentation he will show examples and applications and reveal his vision for the future.
