Cash is like tomatoes
What does cash have in common with tomatoes, melons and fabric? The Follow the Money Blog keeps you informed and up to date on cash news in Europe
Cash payments in stores are as natural as inspecting the tomatoes, smelling the melons or feeling the fabric. It has to do with the basic senses such as sight, touch and smell. Cash has a pure, physical value.
Stores are physical and web stores are virtual. The store owner has made a clear choice: I like to see and meet my customers. And I like to physically display the products that I sell. The customers are equally making a statement: I like the physical stores with real products that I can see and feel before I buy.
Cash is basic human nature
The store visit is a natural and human experience that appeals to me. Products for cash appeals to the same senses and are as such naturally connected. They are both basic human nature. I as customer take my wallet with cash to the stores, select the products based on my senses, pay to the friendly cashiers with my bank notes, and leave the store happy with my purchases. This is natural, real and human.
Gradually replacing physical things with virtual alternatives is not natural and is starting on the path of gradually replacing the store with a web site. This goes against human nature. Stores, customers and cash payments in stores have a natural and strong connection. They are IRL (in real life).
