NEC selected to supply 1000 displays
Heathrow Terminal 2 gets new information screens
NEC Display Solutions will deliver over 1,000 LCD displays for Heathrow Airport’s new Terminal 2 building.
UK airport group BAA selected NEC to provide the screens, which will provide real-life information around the Terminal including check-in, departures, gates, and way-finding to security and retail.
Screens with new LED backlighting technology
Due to open in 2014, the Terminal 2 project is the latest stage in a five-year, £4.8 billion transformation of Heathrow Airport which began after the opening of Terminal 5 in 2008. The new terminal will cost £2.5bn and is expected to be used by 20 million passengers a year. As part of the project, NEC will deliver over 1,000 NEC XS Series public displays, which feature new LED backlighting technology and industry standard OPS compliant slot-in embedded PC technology.
Heathrow focuses on environmental impact
Richard Wilks, aviation business development manager EMEA, NEC Display Solutions, commented: “To be part of such a significant transformation project is extremely exciting. In choosing NEC’s XS Series displays, Heathrow has demonstrated a strong will to continue to deliver new terminal projects with a clear focus on environmental impact.”
