Primark wants to enter the Mexican market. The international fashion retailer and Mexican retail group El Puerto de Liverpool announced a strategic partnership to bring the brand to a country of nearly 130 million people.
A local partner with scale across formats
El Puerto de Liverpool is a Mexican retail and unified commerce company known for its e-commerce platform and is operating nationalwide. According to the announcement, it operates 125 Liverpool department stores, 72 Liverpool Express stores and 196 Suburbia stores, alongside 173 specialty boutiques and 30 shopping centres.
That portfolio spans both the mid-to-upper department store segment and the value-oriented Suburbia format – a structural fit for a retailer positioned on affordable everyday fashion.
What the two sides bring to the table
Primark describes the arrangement as combining its brand strength and international experience with its partner's knowledge of Mexican shoppers, operational capability and track record as one of the country's largest retail groups. Mexico, the company notes, is a well-established retail market and represents a significant opportunity.
Timing and store plans still open
Little is known so far. Only that the two companies will now work together to realise the market entry, with further details to follow as the process progresses. The announcement contains no information on opening dates, store numbers, locations or the commercial structure of the partnership.
Primark was founded in Dublin in 1969 and currently operates more than 500 stores across 19 markets.
