Worldwide debut at Retail Business Technology Expo – Stand 510, Earls Court, London – 12-13 March, 2013.
Omnico Group has announced the launch of the Digipos Freedom Tablet, the world’s first dedicated tablet point of sale device that equips retailers for the mobile and omni-channel world.
Leveraging over 20 years’ point of sale (POS) and retail software experience, The Digipos Freedom Tablet has been designed to enhance the in-store experience, while joining up stores, e-commerce and mobile infrastructure. The tablet allows sales assistants to move in front of the till to serve the customer more personally, with access to real-time information on products, offers and stock.
The Windows-enabled device can be used as a mobile tablet or docked at the point of sale to process PCI compliant transactions. The Freedom Tablet integrates with retailers’ existing POS infrastructure and can be managed by their in-house IT teams, helping to minimise total cost of ownership.
Commenting on the retail device, Steve Thomas, Omnico’s Chief Technology Officer says, “Consumer tablet devices have opened up a new world of mobile computing, but deploying these devices in a retail environment is far from practical. They are not easily integrated with the existing point of sale infrastructure and aren’t built for heavy-duty use. The Digipos Freedom Tablet is the result of extensive R&D and is the first device of its kind that addresses retailers’ practical needs, yet adds a new dimension for sales assistants to enhance customer service.
“It’s all part of our omni-channel vision for retail. It’s no longer enough for retailers to be ‘bricks and clicks’ to compete against pure-play e-commerce providers. They are faced with two big challenges: enhancing the retail experience and joining up ‘islands of technology’ so that mobile, e-commerce and stores aren’t inefficient silos. The Freedom Tablet helps to address these challenges.”
The Freedom Tablet can be deployed in a variety of retail environments from department stores, to cafés, gyms and boutique shops. It will be available for retailers globally to deploy from Q2 2013.
Retailers interested in seeing the Digipos Freedom Tablet in action can visit the Omnico stand (510, next to the main entrance) at Earl’s Court on 11th-12th March, 2013.
