Tyco sues UK retail security tag supplier
Retail security company is protecting its patents
Tyco Retail Solutions has filed a lawsuit in the United Kingdom against Algreta Solutions trading as Catalyst, an independent supplier of security tags to retailers, for patent infringement, infringement of Community trademark and passing off in connection with the sale of Electronic Article Surveillance (EAS) hard tags.
After analyzing samples of hard tag sourced from Catalyst, Tyco filed suit in the United Kingdom asserting that the hard tag, amongst other things, infringes a Sensormatic patent on anti-theft SuperTag II Acousto-Magnetic (AM) technology.
“Tyco’s SuperTag is recognized as the premier EAS hard tag the world’s leading retailers have come to trust over the years to help reduce theft and improve profitability,” said Nancy Chisholm, vice president and general manager, Tyco Retail Solutions. “SuperTag II was designed with a unique set of attributes. It’s durable and not easily defeated by common shoplifting tools, offering retailers the freedom and confidence to open merchandise a wide variety of items. As a result of our extensive investment in research and development, we will rigorously defend this important technology innovation.”
