STAR MICRONICS launches new compact high speed kiosk printing solution

International POS printer manufacturer Star Micronics has further reinforced its position as a major manufacturer of kiosk printing solutions with the launch of the latest addition to its range - the new compact high speed TUP500 series.

To date, Star’s significant experience in providing effective printing solutions for the kiosk industry has been demonstrated by the worldwide acceptance of the highly reliable and versatile TUP900 series.  Building on this series, the TUP500 provides a compact yet versatile open frame/modular kiosk printing solution capable of printing up to 220mm/second (with standard 15cm paper roll) with a default speed of 180mm/second using the optional 25cm paper roll holder.

Competitively priced, the printer features adjustable and unique 45 to 82.5mm paper width functionality with a self-centring width adjuster. And, further highlighting the complete application functionality of the TUP500 series, barcodes, receipts, tickets, labels (TUP542) etc. can all be printed on media from 0.065mm to 0.15mm in thickness.

Characterised by their flexibility, Star’s kiosk printing solutions can be easily modified to meet the most demanding kiosk layouts.  In the case of the TUP500 series, the printer’s metal sides can be easily removed and the paper spindle holders or control panel relocated.

Additional options include a 25cm paper roll holder for horizontal or vertical use (max. capacity 18cm in vertical mode), a paper exit guide/snout with flashing LED attraction mode as well as a range of interface options including low cost USB, Ethernet as well as traditional options.  And, as with a number of Star printers, the TUP500 series is compatible with the majority of operating platforms including OPOSTM, Java-POSTM, LinuxTM, ESC/POSTM and MicrosoftTM Windows with WHQL certification.

Reflecting Star’s focus on the environment, the printer has an energy-saving low peak current mode, a reduced top margin as well as a document capture/anti-litter mode for the internal storage of unwanted or forgotten output.

As Simon Martin, Director and General Manager, Star Micronics EMEA, states, “With the launch of the TUP500 series, Star has clearly strengthened its position as the number one manufacturer of kiosk printing solutions today.  Its versatility and reliability offer the kiosk developer an extremely competitively priced printing solution that effectively responds to the most challenging of kiosk designs.”
