Jyväskylä Intersport has two sporting goods stores whose size poses specific challenges to camera surveillance; How to upgrade the old camera surveillance system without replacing every single item?
Jyväskylä Intersport solved the problem using Sony’s hybrid solution which combined part of the existing analog cameras with about twenty new HD and SD resolution IP cameras and an NSR-1200 recording device.
Older cameras were integrated in the new solution
The customer’s older analog cameras were partially updated, and used for the smaller of the two stores; a complete set of new cameras were installed in the bigger store. All critical areas, such as entrances and exits, are now monitored by HD cameras while SD resolution devices are used in less critical areas. The installation has been expanded to include more cameras. “When the customer saw the image quality of a new camera compared to the older ones, he got excited to opt for a better camera,” says Sami Kosunen of installer JVP-Group.
Accessing video feeds from multiple locations
The two stores have been interlinked so that you might, for example, view a picture from the smaller store, while sitting at the other one. It is also possible to make a client connection from local area network computers to any camera. It would
also be possible to connect the systems to each other via an external network, should there be a need, for example, to
manage the monitoring of locations in different cities from a single point. In Intersport, SNC-DS10, SNC-DH120 and
SNC-DH240 cameras were used in addition to an NSR-1200 recorder equipped with an analog board.
First tough test was successful
“The system is very easy to use and youcan learn its basic functions with little training,” says Kosunen. “On the other
hand, the recorder offers so many functions that you can learn something new every day.” The system which was commissioned in early autumn was tested in a real situation soon after its installation. A gang of friends who had committed an offence were caught red-handed. “We showed the police a still image from one of the HD cameras and they were very surprised at the high quality of the image,” says Kosunen. “Having an image quality which is better than that of many digital
cameras, it is quite easy to provide evidence on a situation.” The resolution of the HD cameras is 1920 x 1440 pixels.
Why Sony?
“This time it was a rare customer opportunity. The owner himself is very knowledgeable of different surveillance solutions and genuinely interested in learning more,” says Kosunen. “I presented the Sony solution and a decision was made because the solution made it possible to combine old and new devices.” We continue to work with the customer in their other stores. “I didn’t even think of offering anything else than Sony equipment. The image quality and the possibility to build hybrid systems settled the game,” concludes Kosunen.
