HPL meets avant garde
Thermopal presents exclusive designs by renowned architects and product designers
By creatives for creatives: "Thermopal Designers' Collection" sets new standards in design-orientated interior projects - launch October 2008
They distort photos of panel constructions to create decorative patterns, take inspiration from the 70s look of a Berlin underground station or from traditional textile patterns such as herringbone and hound's-tooth. Different as the designs are that six renowned design and architecture offices have produced for Thermopal, there is one thing these luxurious creations share: they all reveal the signature of the designers that created them, allowing them to live and breathe, each in its own unique way, in the spirit of the time. They are far removed from the somewhat sober image that is often attached to the industry's traditional creative designs.
Under the label "Thermopal Designers’ Collection", the company – which specialises in materials for sophisticated interior design projects – presented the new designs to an architectural audience in October. "By creatives for creatives" is an exceptional collection that is intended to inspire planners and designers with new ideas for interior architectural design.
"We're sharpening our profile as a design-orientated, innovative brand with the Thermopal Designers' Collection and, in line with our approach as a premium provider, are setting new standards in design-orientated interior projects," emphasises Matthias Marx, Thermopal's marketing director.
Contemporary designs for a versatile material
Six internationally renowned studios from Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Italy have turned their attention to high quality, versatile HPL (high pressure laminate) for the manufacturer of wood materials. The task was to develop patterns for design-orientated interior projects, and specifically e.g. for shop constructions, for hotels and catering establishments, and for the leisure and wellness area. The result: 18 avant-garde designs in three colour-ways those are extremely versatile in use.
Due to their particular qualities, HPL and HPL-coated composite boards are of particular appeal in applications where the interior architecture has to achieve a balance between the overall appearance and special requirements on the materials. High pressure laminate is not only notable for its particular strength and wear and scratch resistance, but the high quality material is also both moisture-proof and easy to clean.
Exclusive launch during the Biennale in Venice
Thermopal presented the Designers' Collection in Venice to coincide with the Architecture Biennale, from 10 to 14 October 2008. Architects from all over Europe had been invited to the City of Lagoons to experience the premiere of this collection.
Three of the collaborating designers were guest speakers: Alfredo Häberli (Zurich), Simone Micheli (Florence) and Sven Fuchs of the architecture offices graft (Berlin), gave an insight into their perception of design and explaining their works. Guests were able to participate in a guided tour of the Biennale Architettura. The Designers' Collection will then be available on the market from December.
