Galp Energia – leading petroleum company in Portugal chooses innovative technology from Wincor Nixdorf

Galp Energia, a leading petroleum corporation in Portugal and the country’s largest service station operator, is planning to operate all of its approximately 1000 service stations in Portugal and Spain with an IT solution from Wincor Nixdorf. Wincor Nixdorf will be deploying the service station software Namos, 1320 POS systems, and 980 back office systems in the Galp service station network. The rollout of all hardware and software is scheduled to begin in mid 2009 and be concluded early in 2010. Subsequently, Wincor Nixdorf will be responsible for maintaining the solution for a period of five years.

Galp expects the new solution to ensure faster, simpler and more transparent processes and improvements in the company’s operative and administrative management. The solution covers all service station business processes, from the fuel pumps to the branch itself, and can be integrated completely into Galp's existing SAP environment.

“With this solution, we’re planning to standardize business processes at all of our service stations and significantly reduce our costs.  This will help us focus more on customer service and the introduction of innovative technologies,"
confirms Miguel Pereira, who heads up Galp’s retail business. Another factor in choosing Wincor Nixdorf’s solution was its simplicity of use: the POS systems are intuitive in design and the Namos software is very user-friendly.

Namos is the core element in the Wincor Nixdorf software solution i-Service Station, which was developed especially for service stations and convenience store concepts and is used around the world by leading companies. Thanks to its component-based, open and multi-layered architecture, it can be implemented independent of the type or size of operation and in any country across a company's entire store network. In designing the solution, Wincor Nixdorf focused on a total cost of ownership that is a low as possible, plus robustness and resilience of the solution, since these are both especially important in the demanding environment of service station and convenience store operation. In addition, the solution permits fast, trouble-free integration of functional expansions.
