Medical marijuana vending kiosks are gaining support in the U.S. thanks to improved security measures. The kiosks function as a self-service dispensary for patients with a repeat subscription, a valid medical marijuana card, registration with the machine's system and an authorised thumbprint on file.
The solutions offer a possible solution to the inherent security and inventory management concerns that pervade the medical marijuana market. Typically the kiosks visually monitor and record all transactions, track the movement of inventory, securely contain the products and require stringent security measures to be fulfilled before dispensing.
Medbox and Autospense are the companies that have attracted the most attention so far, partly due to a legal battle over a patent dispute that took place last year. Autospense claim that their self-service solution “legitimizes and introduces a higher standard of business efficiency to a market that is commonly known for being chaotic, poorly managed and counter culture.”
