Wincor Nixdorf has won a major contract from Norwegian retailer NorgesGruppen to provide 2.5 million electronic shelf-labelling displays. The three-year contract covers the delivery and installation of the ESL pricing and marketing system, as well as services.
The core business of the NorgesGruppen is food retail and wholesale retail. The retail group operates more than 2300 retail outlets, including the Kiwi discount stores, the EuroSpar, SPAR and Meny/ Ultra supermarkets, as well as a chain of smaller convenience stores and kiosks.
Some stores are already equipped with earlier ESL solutions, which are restricted to pure pricing; however under the contract with Wincor Nixdorf, NorgesGruppen will deliver advanced, full graphical ESL technology that offers greater pricing and information flexibility. The electronic shelf-labels have a graphical display that provides product information and special promotions in addition to prices. As such, the label serve as a valuable communication tool.
In addition, the Wincor Nixdorf solution offers excellent LCD image quality, is easy to install and maintain, has a long battery-life and thus ensures overall low operating costs. This bundle of benefits weighed heavily in NorgesGruppen’s decision to select the Wincor Nixdorf ESL solution. The German IT solutions provider will begin installing the labels at the end of May 2013.
Stig Arnesen, Sales Director at Wincor Nixdorf AS in Scandinavia, believes that with its move to install electronic shelf-labels across its stores, NorgesGruppen, will help establish a Europe-wide standard for the new technology. “Far beyond pure price communication, our solution can electronically deliver all information of interest and importance to customers in the shelf zone,” he said. At the same time, he added, the Wincor Nixdorf solution will help NorgesGruppen increase process efficiency in its stores, optimize customer communications and present the company as an innovative retailer.
