Now in their eighth year, the World Retail Awards are recognised as a showcase for ‘retail excellence’. The awards attract entries from hundreds of retailers from over 50 countries across the world, allowing many international and regional retailers to demonstrate their expertise and innovative approach across a broad range of segments of the retail industry. The teams of expert judges have now selected the retailers they believe are the most outstanding and worthy of a place in the final.
Once again the shortlisted finalists have been drawn from an extremely high standard of entry. The final entries will all be reviewed on the 28th of September, the day before the Congress begins, when the Grand Jury, made up of 16 senior retail leaders, will convene in Paris to select the winners. All the winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony and Gala dinner taking place at Salle Wagram, Paris on Tuesday 30th of September. The shortlist includes for the first time, retailers from Albania and Singapore.
This year’s judges include: Bernie Brookes, CEO, Myer Ltd; Andrew Jennings, Non-Executive Director, Ted Baker; Paul Charron, Chairman, Campbell Soup Company; Bijou Kurien, Strategic Advisor, L Captial (Asia); Rick Darling, Executive Director, Government & Public Affairs, Li & Fung US; Richard Simonin, Executive Chairman, Limoni Group; plus numerous other high profile figures from the retail industry.*
“Once again, we are astounded at the calibre and number of entries to the awards. All the categories attracted an exceptionally high standard of entries from retailers across the globe,” says World Retail Congress Chairman, Ian McGarrigle. “And in testament to the global reach of the World Retail Congress and these awards, I am particularly delighted to see an even greater number of entries from many more emerging markets, including retailers from countries such as Nigeria, Albania, India, China and Turkey. The finalists are all fantastic representatives for the international retail industry and how retailers continue to adapt and innovate in an increasingly challenging environment. We thank everyone for their entries and look forward to hearing the Grand Jury’s final decisions on the 30th of September.”
