At Kiosk Europe Expo 2009 (5-7 May 2009, Messe Essen, Germany) Star Micronics, the world's leading installer of packaged and modular specialist kiosk printing solutions will be exhibiting its extensive range of industry-leading products, including the latest addition to its portfolio - the new compact high speed TUP500 series.
To date, Star’s significant experience and expertise in providing effective printing solutions for the kiosk industry has been demonstrated by the worldwide industry acceptance of the highly reliable and versatile TUP900 series as used in a number of major installations including the Superbox kiosk by Coop Switzerland.
Responding to market demand for a more compact kiosk printer design, Star has developed the TUP500 offering the end user a cost-effective, high performance kiosk printing solution. Capable of printing up to 220mm/second (with standard 15cm paper roll) with a default speed of 180mm/second using the optional 25cm paper roll holder, the printer features adjustable and unique 45 to 82.5mm paper width functionality with a self-centring width adjuster. And, further highlighting the complete application functionality of the TUP500 series, barcodes, receipts, tickets, labels (TUP542) etc. can all be printed on media from 0.065mm to 0.15mm in thickness.
Characterised by their flexibility, Star’s kiosk printing solutions can be easily modified to meet the most challenging kiosk layouts. In the case of the TUP500 series, the printer’s metal sides can be easily removed and the paper spindle holders or control panel relocated. Additional options include a 25cm paper roll holder for horizontal or vertical use (max. capacity 18cm in vertical mode), a paper exit guide/snout with flashing LED attraction mode as well as a range of interface options including low cost USB, Ethernet and traditional options. And, as with most Star printers, the TUP500 series is compatible with the majority of operating platforms including OPOSTM, Java-POSTM, LinuxTM, ESC/POSTM and MicrosoftTM Windows with WHQL certification.
Reflecting Star’s focus on the environment, the printer has an energy-saving low peak current mode, a reduced top margin as well as a document capture/anti-litter mode for the internal storage of unwanted or forgotten output.
Within its portfolio of packaged printers, Star provides a diverse range of solutions. Accompanying the multi-functional TSP700II with advanced driver software the TSP100GT futurePRNTTM offers a comparable print speed of 250mm/second making this printer, alongside the TSP700II, the fastest single station printer available today. Incorporating a range of futurePRNT features including value-added software tools that will work alongside existing POS software, users can literally re-design receipts by modifying fonts, inserting logos or watermarks and automatically adding coupons based on the retailer’s pre-decided products or purchase values relevant to a specific transaction, thus offering the potential to effectively turn a kiosk into an invaluable marketing tool. Examples of where Star packaged printers have been successfully installed are in the Audio Box by West International in Sweden and in a unique, flexible kiosk solution by leading Swedish distributor, Origum Distribution AB. Further partners include Gekartel, Polygon and Trust Terminals.
