NCR unveils innovative compact point-of-sale terminals

Unique design brings greater value to retailers through compact size, superior energy efficiency and improved consumer experience

NCR Corporation (NYSE: NCR) today launched two new compact point-of-sale (POS) solutions that feature innovative, unique designs: the NCR RealPOS™ 40 and the NCR RealPOS™ 60. Offering high performance, greater energy efficiency and a more compact size, these new terminals provide outstanding value to retailers as part of the NCR RealPOS product line.

The new designs incorporate a new thermal cooling system that enables fanless operation on the NCR Real POS 40 for a quiet, highly reliable POS system. The compact size of both terminals means that they take up less checkout counter space, giving retailers the ability to offer more merchandise in the high-traffic checkout area.

NCR RealPOS 40
The NCR RealPOS 40 is an affordable and rugged solution that is 68 percent more energy efficient than prior generation terminals*. The NCR RealPOS 40 provides flexible connectivity options to power peripherals, as well as dual display support for consumer-facing advertising and messaging.

NCR RealPOS 60
The NCR RealPOS 60 provides high performance to run the latest POS applications and deliver fast, personalized service to consumers. With its powerful performance and durable construction, the NCR RealPOS 60 reduces total cost of ownership and protects the retailer’s POS investment.

“The additions to our proven NCR RealPOS product line deliver exceptional energy efficiency, reduce support costs and enable the next-generation applications retailers need to improve their customer experience in the personalized manner that consumers are demanding,” said Greg Egan, vice president of product management for NCR Corporation.

Both devices support multiple operating systems, including Microsoft Windows® Embedded POSReady 2009, Windows 7 and Windows XP Professional, as well as Novell SUSE® Linux for Point of Service.

As part of NCR’s commitment to industry standard architecture, the new terminals provide an open platform for current and next-generation software applications, including the NCR Advanced Checkout Solution, the NCR Advanced Checkout Solution for Independent Retailers and the NCR General POS software, as well as diverse solutions offered by NCR RealPartners channel partners.
*Based on NCR measurement of NCR RealPOS 40 versus NCR RealPOS 30 with similarly configured systems and equivalent test parameters. Details available upon request.
