At the request of its members in Europe and Asia, the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) is holding a new annual event to connect shopping centre developers with international retailers to generate new business.
ICSC China Retail Summit and Connections will take place in Shanghai on the 28th-29th April 2015 and is based on the successful model of the ICSC Retail Connections in London, which this year will be held on 25th March 2015.
Retail sales in China, the world’s second-largest economy, will rise by at least 12 percent in each of the next three years, and cities across China are the most attractive Asia-Pacific locations for international retailers, according to economists surveyed by Bloomberg News.
Global retail brands including Abercrombie and Fitch, Burger King, C&A, DreamWorks, Espirit, Gap, Marks & Spencer, Mothercare, Nike, Swatch, and Walmart, as well as major developers in China including Wanda and Xintiandi, and leading investors, including Blackstone, have already confirmed their attendance for this new event, which combines the opportunity for business deal-making meetings with sessions on entering the China market.
Sara Fang Horton, ICSC China Managing Director says “This event will bring shopping centre owners, developers and international retailers together, under one roof, for the first time ever in China. We look forward to making this annual event the biggest of its kind in Asia.”
Mike Morrissey, ICSC Executive Vice President who manages ICSC’s global operations said “ICSC supports its members to find new business opportunities all over the world and there is no doubt of the size and scale of the China market. We are holding this new annual event in Shanghai, specifically at the request of major developers in China and international retailers and investors keen to enter the market. Based on the success of Retail Connections in London and the fantastic response we have already received, we are looking forward to an inspiring event in April.”
