And the winner is: Cielos, the modular lighting system
Zumtobel lighting system wins three design awards
Several days ago, the modular Cielos wall and ceiling-mounted lighting system designed by BillingsJackson Design received the Industrial Design Forum’s iF Award, a prize much sought after in industrial circles. This is already the third design award that went to the innovative lighting system this year. The other prizes brought home by the Cielos lighting system are the Design Plus Award and this year’s "Lights of the Future" award.
For more than 50 years, the iF Design Award has been an internationally renowned benchmark when it comes to design and innovation. It is one of the three most important design competitions world-wide. The iF award is the supreme category of this illustrious design competition. In its context, prizes are awarded to international top products that show a quest for innovation. In 2008, 2,771 products from 35 countries participated in the competition. The high-calibre jury awarded 821 prizes in 12 categories. The modular Cielos lighting system, which was created in collaboration with BillingsJackson Design, was among the prize winners. The luminaire impressed the jury with its clear design, high level of operating convenience and ease of installation, as well as its perfect synthesis of design, visual effect and colour management. From March 2008, all prize-winning products are presented in a special exhibition, which attracts more than 250,000 visitors every year. The products are also presented online.
Today, the Design Plus competition organised by Messe Frankfurt is one of Germany’s leading design competitions. Since 1983, the award has gone to products which are outstanding in terms of both their design and functionality, and has established itself as a quality seal for technological innovations boasting superior design. Design Plus is awarded to products which stand out thanks to their highly appealing design, technological innovation and practical value in everyday use. 99 companies with 187 products ran for a Design Plus rating before Light+Building 2008, of which 32 won the award, among them two products by Zumtobel. In a special exhibition in hall 4.2 (stand G 41), 32 products will be shown which have won the Design Plus award. The prize award ceremony will take place on 6 April at 2 p.m. at the trade fair site.
The European "Lights of the Future" design competition awards prizes to visionary and trendsetting luminaires that present a felicitous combination of energy efficiency and sophisticated design. These may include any type of luminaires whose design particularly enhances the luminaire as an object or provides a novel interpretation of the room where it is used. In the context of the global issue of climate change, energy efficiency is a particularly important aspect taken into account in the evaluation of visionary products. Side by side with 29 other products that have won the European Lights of the Future design competition award, the Cielos lighting system presents itself as being visionary, yet very real, in a special exhibition at the trade fair staged in hall 6.2, stand B 78. The prize award ceremony will take place on 7 April at 2 p.m. at the trade fair site.
