Once again, everything revolved around design in Milan. While the Salone Internazionale del Mobile celebrated its 57th edition in April, countless events also took place outside of this realm as part of the Fuorisalone – the Milan Design Week. The entire city center turned into a design mecca and inspired trade fair construction, interior design, store concepts and visual merchandising.
Seating has long been regarded as an essential design element. The ideas are seemingly endless. Even classic fashion labels get creative with furniture collections. The ingenious armchair at the Missoni booth is a perfect example of this (first picture).
There was a wide variety of booths: elegant, solid and baroque structures stood in stark contrast to minimalist, stylishly modern designs. Wall surfaces surprised visitors by simply featuring painted kitchen utensils. The light installation and digital technologies at the Miele booth created a very unique ambiance.
Exploring the streets of Milan. Art, retail, and services were all wrapped up in the spirit of design. There were eye-catchers everywhere: imaginative display stands, retro scales or a hair salon concept that definitely raised the bar in terms of haircuts thanks to music, beer and store tours.
The showrooms of this Dutch mannequin manufacturer are always worth a visit. And Milan proved once again that these mannequins are actually too amazing to just dress them in fashion clothing, wouldn’t you agree?
