Recipients of the 2017 U.S. Design and Development Awards

Design and Development Awards competition recognizing excellence in innovation and creativity in the U.S. retail real estate industry

The International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) U.S. Design and Development Awards competition was open to shopping center owners, developers, management companies, architects, designers, retailers, or other professionals responsible for any retail project or retail store design that demonstrated exceptional development or redevelopment characteristics with a high degree of creativity and uniqueness within the continental U.S. The competition focused on four general categories: New Developments; Renovations and Expansions; Sustainable Design and Retail Store Design.

New Developments

  • Gold Award/ Sustainable Commendation: The Village at Westfield Topanga, Woodland Hills, California
  • Commendation: 400 East Pratt – Addition, Baltimore, Maryland
  • Commendation/Sustainable Gold Award: Hughes Landing, The Woodlands, Texas
  • Commendation: Liberty Center, Liberty Township, Ohio
  • Commendation: The Mall of San Juan, San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • Commendation/ Sustainable Commendation: Village at La Floresta Brea, California

Renovations/Expansions

  • Gold: Ala Moana Center, Honolulu, Hawaii
  • Commendation: Asheville Outlets, Ashevillle, North Carolina
  • Commendation: Roosevelt Field Mall, Garden City, New York

Sustainable Design

  • Commendation: Village at La Floresta, Brea, California
  • Commendation: The Village at Westfield Topanga, Woodland Hills, California
  • Commendation: Hughes Landing, The Woodlands, Texas

Retail Store Design

  • Gold Award: AMC NewPark 12, NewPark Mall, Newark, California
  • Gold: Masseria By Nicholas Stefanelli, Union Market District Washington, District of Columbia
  • Gold Award: Nordstrom, Del Amo Fashion Center, Torrance, California

ICSC announced the winners of the 2017 U.S. Design and Development Awards during an awards ceremony at ICSC’s Retail Green and CenterBuild Conference in Scottsdale.
